Webinar: How to be Firm with Staff Without Being a Jerk: Practical People Management for Insurance Brokerage Owners and leaders

September 23, 2026, 9:00 - 11:00 AM

How to be Firm with Staff (when required) Without Being a Jerk

Managing staff can be challenging; especially when we are uncomfortable with confrontation or conflict.  There are times when every manager/supervisor has to be firm.  It could be when we are giving direction, when correction is needed, or when we are encountering resistance.  The ability to effectively manage or supervise staff today requires the ability to combine the relational approach with the ability to be firm when required.  It's not either/or, but rather the ability to do them together, simultaneously. I call this approach relational firmness or empathetic firmness.  If you manage or supervise staff and you find it difficult to be firm when required, then this session will be of real value.

In this webinar you will learn:

  • What Empathetic or Relational Firmness is and why it is so critical to managing today's workforce.
  • Defining firmness as it relates to dealing with staff.
  • A simple approach that will allow you to be more firm in a conversation with staff when firmness is required.
  • How to determine when a firm approach is required.
  • The techniques and steps that will make the tough conversations with staff more successful.
  • How to combine empathy and firmness together in your Management/Supervisory approach in a way that is natural, that leverages your natural strengths, and that gets results while maintaining positive relationships with staff.
